Day (28) of GOOD-Local Edition

Here are some great local bands and GOOD friends, much of whom I was able to see over the course of the last couple nights. Chico is a small college town with a great local music scene considering the lack of other arts and culture available, and these bands are signs of life here. You may have seen these guys touring around the country in the last few years. Members of these bands have been all over in various other projects, you hopefully have heard Number One Gun, Brighten, The Americas, Sherwood, and The Velveteen. Check them all out and Enjoy.

Two more great tracks from the Kanye West Camp, and the both have great videos. The Mr. Hudson track might be a little too techno for some of you, but I love it. Hope you had a great holiday. Enjoy

Day (22) of GOOD

The first track from today's selection might be my favorite single of the year if you were yo judge by my itunes most played list. Aloe Blacc is a singer, MC, classically trained horn player, and all around dope artist. If you watched HBO's How to Make it in America, you've heard this track because it was the opening credits song. I was lucky enough to see Aloe back in the day in LA when he was coming up, and makes for an awesome live show. The second is from my GOOD friends latest project with Kimberly Wyatt from the Pussycat Dolls, check it out, they are blowin up the dance charts and are about to take over Europe. And remember to stay tuned to CONCRETE OPINIONS for more GOOD, and follow HMATW on twitter.

Aloe Blacc
"I Need a Dollar" Good Things

Her Majesty And The Wolves (HMATW)
"Glaciers" Single

Here's another dope remixed track from HMATW

Day (21) of GOOD

Today's tracks are from a side project of hip-hop extraordinaire Pharrell Williams and a band who had a lot of shoes to fill with their sophomore album. MGMT's Congratulations is not the same type of record as Oracular Spectacular in terms of singles, but if you give it a listen, its good. Enjoy

N.E.R.D.
"Hypnotize You" (Produced by Daft Punk) This track is no longer available for download

MGMT
"Flash Delirium" Congratulations

Day (20) of GOOD

Here is a track off the latest mixtape from DC rapper Wale, who has been blowin up the blog/mixtape scene for the last few years. The second track is from Blue Hawaii, not the Elvis movie, and and has an infectious sound that is hard to describe. Listen and Enjoy.

Day (19) of GOOD

Happy birthday to my GOOD friend Ben, hopefully it's notnegative 10 in the Chi. Today's tracks come from some indie/pop superstars, who I wasn't convinced with right away, but made a great record this last year, and the other is from the soulful British songstress, who can belt it out like nobody's business. Check out CONCRETE OPINIONS for more GOOD.

Vampire Weekend
"Run" Contra

Adele
"Rolling In The Deep" 21

Sorry about the ad but this video is worth it.

Day (17) of GOOD

Day (15) of GOOD

First things first...Happy Birthday to Billy of CONCRETE OPINIONS, my co-collaborator of (31) Days of GOOD, and my sister-in-law Jaione. And now for the tunes, last night on Facebook I posted asking my friends what should be on here this month, and it was stuff I completely agreed with and loved from this past year. So here is a track from the always amazing Black Keys, and the latest effort from the best animated duo in music, The Gorrilaz.

The Black Keys
"Tighten Up" Brother

Gorillaz
"Stylo" ft. Bobby Womack and Mos Def Plastic Beach

Bonus:
Freddie Gibbs
"Oil Money" Bun B, Chuck Inglish, and Dan Auerbach

Day (14) of GOOD-POP

So here are some guilty pleasures, last year I posted two pop tracks one day and I'm gonna do it again here. Sometimes there are songs that are so catchy and contagious that you can't avoid them, regardless of taste, but I actually like these, as long as admitting that doesn't take away the small amount of credibility I have.

Katy Perry
"Teenage Dream" Teenage Dream

Ke$ha
"Your Love Is A Drug" Animal

BONUS: This is a cool version
Katy Perry
"Electric Feel" MGMT Cover

Day (13) of GOOD Soundtrack Edition

Here is some amazing orignal music from the best film of the year. This will be Best Picture and I have no doubt in my mind, this movie was near perfect and the score by Hans Zimmer is spot on. Here is a track from Inception, and the second is from a soundtrack that I've posted about earlier last month. Tron Legacy features original music from french DJ duo Daft Punk. This film has an enormous amount of hype, and from what I've seen and heard so far it looks like it might live up to it all. Enjoy

Homework Made Fun

This is my final project for my Media Aesthetics class. it's a screenplay idea that I had about 6 years ago, and it's wild to see it come to life. Thanks everyone from "No Toll NorthBound Productions" Check it out, and Enjoy. And don't judge because it's not in HD, and we had a budget of $0.00. thanks to Chico State for allowing us to shoot in the Research Facility. Oh and since I got to write and direct means I got to choose the music, many of which are songs/artists featured on this blog and CONCRETE OPINIONS.

Resting Place Trailer from Brendan Fay on Vimeo.

Day (12) of GOOD

The first track selected for some of the best of "10 aka (31) Days of GOOD is from West Coast hip-hop trio Pacific Division. These guys are from Palmdale but reside in LA and they are reminiscent of late 80's and early 90's a la Tribe, J5, etc. This is their newest, days old, and its dope. Check out their Mixtape Church League Champions
The second is off that mixtape and features the other coolest group in hip-hop The Cool Kids.

Waiting Room: The Dr.

Dr. Dre takes a minute from selling soda and headphones (kind of...there is a few beats by drew plugs in here) and gets back in the studio. This is the first video off the doctor's much anticipated "comeback" album (he's gotta be almost 50, but has not lost his touch with production). the video is sick visually, and if you take out the cliche rap video shit i.e. Boobs, Blunts, Lambo's, Benjamins, and g5's, it's actually really well done. There is some great visual effects and some cool time manipulation shit going on. I'm not sure why Akon is on the track, if your pairing up with Snoop, get Nate Dogg on that shit man! Check it out and stay tuned for more hip-hop on Day (12) of (31) Days of GOOD.

P.S. Stoners, this might be your new anthem.

Day (11) of GOOD

This song is undeniably catchy and if your a prude...offensive, it is one of the latest from Atlanta crooner, Cee-Lo Green, and the second track is from Jonsi, the vocalist from Sigur Ros. Kinda tired, not much explanation needed here. Enjoy and check out CONCRETE OPINIONS for more GOOD. Follow us on Twitter.

Cee-Lo (not available for download but here's the video)
"Fuck You"

Jonsi
"Go Do" Go

Day (10) of GOOD

Here are some "solo" efforts from some bigtime front men, both great records but neither stray too far from their respective bands. The Flowers record is my favorite of the two and is more consistent but I love the sound of his voice of those electro/rock beats. Enjoy

Kele
"Tenderoni" The Boxer

Brandon Flowers
"Crossfire" Flamingo

CONCRETE OPINIONS has even more GOOD...check it...

Day (9) of GOOD

This Philly hip-hop duo is all over the blogoshere and I've posted one of these tracks before. Chiddy Bang is a DJ and an MC that combine a cool blend of alternative/indie music with traditional hip-hop beats and rhymes. They should be releasing a major label record this year, but most if not all of their mixtapes are free. Enjoy

Chiddy Bang
"The Opposite of Adults" The Swelly Express

Chiddy Bang
"Under The Sheets" (Ellie Goulding x Chiddy Bang Remix)

DJ Skeet

I always see this cat on The Hundreds blog and Bobby hooked it up with a link to this dude's Myspace page, yes Myspace aka digital detriot, and he has some sick mixtapes. Check out the 90's RnB mixtape he did for Mishka. I will try and post it for download soon but it is free if you follow this link.

Day (8) of GOOD

With all the heat i've been getting from DMCA, today I chose to do things a little differently. These are both tracks that I want on my best of list for the year, but they happen to be songs that were made free to download from the artists themselves. You can actually download the entire Girl Talk record for free, if you dont have time to make a playlist for your next party, just put this on and you should be ok, or just put on Thriller. 3 mins in to the "Oh No" track Girl Talk mixes "Ice Cream Paint Job" with "Hello My Love", and I think the base from a Curtis Mayfield track...so sick. Enjoy

More Tron, More Daft Punk

Day (7) of GOOD-revised, thanks DMCA

Here are some more favorites of the past year, I wouldn't call it a comeback, but it's the first real solo project from half of Outkast. Sir Lucious Leftfoot the Son of Chico Dusty is the latest from Big Boi and it's great from beginning to end. Big Boi has his hands in the second track too, he is featured on the song and if memory serves me he discovered her. Janelle Monae is hard to describe if you havent seen or heard her, she is like her album title implies and has even cooler hair than that chick from La Roux.

Sorry this isn't available for download. Thanks FCC, for your stupid rules, you can still listen to the song, and download it here or here from someone else.
Big Boi
"Shutterbug" Sir Lucious Leftfoot the Son of Chico Dusty

Janelle Monae
"Tightrope" The Archandriod

This is a little bonus because its the sickest mashup I've heard in awhile, and it also features Daddy Fat Sack
Big Boi x Discovery-The White Panda Mashup
"Shutterbug/Swingtree"
